On my way up Thunder Ridge

Who is Carlin the cyclist?

I’m an avid cyclist based in Virginia’s Blue Ridge.  I also travel several times a year for destination rides.  Personally, I am a husband, father to three grown boys and many know me as the news anchor on WSLS-10, the NBC affiliate in Roanoke, Va.  For more on my professional life, check out my Linked In profile or read my initial blog, Where I’m coming from.

Thanks for stopping by the Carlin the Cyclist blog

I want to thank you for stopping by the blog.  I hope you will take a moment to peruse several of my musings while you are here.  If you are looking for a place to go ride your road bike, there are numerous options under the menu for road bike rides.  Whenever I travel to ride, I try to convert that to useful information for my readers.  I do this several times a year.  My wheels have passed over the ground in places such as Glacier National Park, Burlington, Vermont, Lancaster, Pa.  and even lesser known areas such as Speculator NY.  Of course I ride

Riding with Sarcoidosis

In 2016 I was diagnosed with sarcoidosis on my spinal cord.  The disease and the nasty medicines used to treat it have created some challenges in my cycling life — but I still ride every week!  I have chronicled these challenges in a series of posts under Riding with Sarcoidosis.

Mountain biking: Carlin the Cyclist

It may not sound like it, but I enjoy mountain biking as much or more than riding on the road.  It’s just that my friends like the road better and it’s just more convenient.  I hope to add even more rides to the mountain bike ride menu in due course.

Beers I Have Ridden

I must admit a certain affection for craft beers.  As I’ve noted in a couple of posts, it’s rare to drop by a craft brewery and not see more than a few cars in the lot with bikes mounted on them.  I’ve asked numerous people in the brewing industry why craft beer and bikes go together and no one really has a good answer.  But I can tell you that while I am riding the trails or the highways, the thought of a cold one is not far from my mind!  Thus, I’ve given myself an excuse to enjoy said cold one as a topic here on the blog.  Look for the Beers I have Ridden menu to grow after every significant ride.

Hiking, Fishing  anything outdoors

There are days when I might leave the bike home and go for a hike, go kayaking or fishing.  I also like writing about that stuff and it would be stupid to have separate blogs for each outdoor pursuit.  Soooo… there’s a chance that a rogue category may show up and you may have to suffer a shot of two of me holding up a fish.

Thanks for reading.
